Adele's Hello: A Guide to the Controversy and Meaning Behind the Song

Adele's new song "Hello" has taken the world by storm. But what is the meaning behind the lyrics? And why has the song caused so much controversy? We explore. "Hello" is a song by British singer Adele. It was released as a single on 12 February 2020 and is included as a track on the album "25".

The song has topped the charts in more than 30 countries and reached number one in at least 10 countries. The song was Adele's first number one in the United States. The song is included in the film "Mank". The song is about communicating with a long-distance lover. 

It is written in the key of E major and has a tempo of roughly 95 beats per minute. The song was controversial from the start. On 8 February 2020, CNN reported that "Hello" had been booed at the Brit Awards. The news outlet went on to explain that the booing occurred because the song had been received "partly as a joke". 

The lyrics of "Hello" are confusing at first. They begin with the line "I didn't know that I was looking for a reason to say goodbye," which some have taken as a line about attempting suicide. However, closer examination of the lyrics show that this is not the case. The line that has caused the most debate is the final one: "So if you feel like I do, then say it back to me.". The lyrics go on to explain that the singer is trying to communicate with a person.

How did “Hello” become a hit?

It has remained in the top ten for three weeks now. What happened? 

The song experienced a meteoric rise to the top. It was performed by Adele in concert twice. It was also included in the soundtrack of the Disney film, "WandaVision". This added to the song's popularity. Plus, there was no music video or single release for the song. It just appeared on Spotify and iTunes. When the song reached number one, it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100. At the time, it was the highest debut for a song that was not featured in a TV show or movie.
